Finding the right coil for your vape
Coils are not universal. Each coil series is made for specific tanks and pod kits, so start with the device you own. Every listing shows the tanks and kits it fits and the resistances available. If you're unsure, check the coil already in your device; its series name and resistance are usually printed on the side.
What coil resistance means
- 0.8 ohm and above – mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping with a tighter draw, less vapour and higher-strength nic salts or freebase e-liquid.
- Below 0.5 ohm (sub-ohm) – direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping with more vapour, higher wattage and low-strength, high-VG e-liquid.
Mesh coils heat more evenly than traditional wire coils, which gives stronger flavour and usually a longer coil life.
How to prime a new coil
- Drip a few drops of e-liquid onto the exposed cotton on the coil.
- Fit the coil and fill the tank or pod.
- Leave it for five to ten minutes so the cotton fully soaks.
- Start at the lower end of the coil's wattage range and increase gradually.
Skipping priming is the most common cause of a burnt taste from a brand-new coil.
When to change your coil
Most coils last one to two weeks, depending on how much you vape and the e-liquid you use. Sweet, dark or high-VG liquids wear coils out faster. Change your coil when you notice a burnt or muted taste, less vapour, or gurgling and leaking.
